About
The Ilyushin IL-96-400T is a long-range wide-body cargo freighter based on the IL-96-400M airframe, powered by four Russian PS-90A1 turbofan engines. Evolved from the FAA-certified Western-powered IL-96T (which used Pratt & Whitney engines and received FAA Type Certificate A54NM in 1999 as the first Russian commercial aircraft to achieve FAA certification), the IL-96-400T replaces Western engines with Russian PS-90A1 powerplants producing 171 kN thrust each, ensuring operational independence. With a maximum payload capacity of 92 tonnes and range of 5,000 km at full load (or 12,000 km with 40-tonne load), the IL-96-400T serves commercial cargo operations. Key features include a large cargo door in the left front fuselage, no cabin windows, cargo dimensions of 3.6×2.6m, and automatic cargo loading systems on main and lower decks. The aircraft accommodates international standard containers and pallets. Currently operated by Sky Gates Airlines (Volga-Dnepr Group) for commercial freight, multiple IL-96-400T aircraft have been restored and put into service in the 2020s. The IL-96-400T represents Russia's heavy cargo airlift capability using entirely domestic technology.
