About
The Ilyushin IL-96-300 is the baseline production variant of the IL-96 family, a Russian long-range wide-body airliner. First flown in 1988 and entering service with Aeroflot in 1993, the IL-96-300 features a redesigned, shorter fuselage compared to the IL-86 (55.3m vs 59.5m), distinctive winglets for improved aerodynamics, and four Aviadvigatel PS-90A high-bypass turbofan engines providing 157 kN thrust each. With capacity for 235-300 passengers depending on configuration and a range of 8,400 km with maximum payload, the IL-96-300 serves as Russia's flagship wide-body aircraft. Key features include a modern glass cockpit with three-person crew (versus 4-person crew on IL-86), improved fuel efficiency over the NK-86 powered IL-86, and a service life of 25 calendar years or 70,000 flight hours. The aircraft is primarily used for Russian government VIP transport, including presidential flights, and limited commercial operations with Aeroflot and other Russian carriers.
