Embraer

The Embraer KC-390 Millennium is a medium-size, twin-engine, jet-powered military transport aircraft developed and manufactured by Embraer Defense & Security of Brazil. First flown in 2015 and entering service with the Brazilian Air Force in 2019, the KC-390 represents a modern replacement for older turboprop cargo aircraft like the C-130 Hercules. The aircraft features advanced fly-by-wire flight controls, Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics suite, dual head-up displays with enhanced vision system, and tactical radar with spotlight SAR capability. Powered by two IAE V2500-E5 turbofan engines (the same family used on commercial airliners), the KC-390 offers jet speed and altitude performance superior to turboprop competitors. The aircraft is designed for rapid role changes, capable of being reconfigured between missions in 3 hours or less. Multi-mission capabilities include cargo and troop transport, equipment and personnel airdrop, medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), search and rescue (SAR), firefighting, humanitarian operations, and aerial refueling. When configured with quick-installation air-to-air refueling equipment, the aircraft operates as both tanker and receiver under the KC-390 designation. The spacious cargo hold accommodates up to 26 tons of payload including military vehicles, helicopters, or standard cargo pallets. The KC-390 can carry 80 troops, 74 stretchers with 8 medical attendants, or 66 paratroopers. It operates from semi-prepared and damaged runways, making it suitable for tactical deployment. Customers include Brazil, Portugal, Hungary, Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, and South Korea. The aircraft's high speed (470 knots cruise, Mach 0.8 maximum), high altitude capability (36,000 ft service ceiling), and modern systems make it one of the most capable tactical airlifters in its class.
