Dornier 328JET
Dornier/Fairchild Dornier

About
The Dornier 328JET is a jet-powered derivative of the turboprop Do 328, developed as a regional jet airliner in the 30-seat class. First flown in 1998 and entering service in 1999, the 328JET featured Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306B turbofan engines mounted on pylons under the wings. The conversion to jet power provided higher cruise speeds (400 knots versus 310 for the turboprop), longer range (2,000 NM), and higher service ceiling (35,000 feet). The 328JET retained the same fuselage and high-wing configuration as the turboprop variant but with modified wings to accommodate jet engines. The aircraft competed in the 30-50 seat regional jet market. Several variants were proposed including the Envoy 3 with extended range. Production ended in 2002 when Fairchild Dornier filed for bankruptcy, with approximately 110 328JET aircraft built.
