The Boeing 787-8 is the original and shortest variant of the Dreamliner family. As the launch variant, the 787-8 entered service with All Nippon Airways in October 2011, marking a new era in aviation technology. At 186 feet long, it typically seats 242 passengers in a two-class configuration and can fly 7,355 nautical miles. The 787-8's groundbreaking features include composite fuselage and wings, electrically-powered systems (no bleed air), larger windows with electronic dimming, and superior passenger comfort. Despite initial production challenges, the 787-8 proved the Dreamliner concept and paved the way for the larger 787-9 and 787-10 variants. A total of 397 787-8s have been delivered as of 2025.
