The BAC One-Eleven Series 400 is essentially identical to the Series 300 but equipped with US instruments and avionics for the American market. Introduced in 1965, it featured the same Rolls-Royce Spey 511-14 engines, additional fuel capacity, and long-range capabilities as the Series 300. The Series 400 was developed specifically to meet US certification requirements and customer preferences for American-manufactured equipment. It proved popular with US carriers and became one of the most successful variants. The Series 400 helped establish the One-Eleven in the competitive US regional jet market. A total of 70 Series 400 aircraft were produced.
