ATR 42-500

The ATR 42-500 is an enhanced variant introduced in 1995, featuring more powerful PW127E engines rated at 2,160 shp and a modern glass cockpit with six-screen EFIS (Electronic Flight Instrument System). The -500 offers improved performance, particularly in hot-and-high conditions, along with increased payload-range capability. It maintains the proven high-wing configuration and typically seats 46-50 passengers. The variant introduced commonality with the ATR 72-500, sharing engines, avionics, and many systems, reducing training and maintenance costs for operators flying both types. The ATR 42-500 became highly popular with regional airlines and cargo operators, offering exceptional fuel efficiency, low noise levels, and excellent short-field performance. The -500 variant served as the predecessor to the current-production ATR 42-600.
