Yakovlev Yak-54

About

A two-seat unlimited-aerobatic trainer, the tandem development of the single-seat Yak-55M, built at Progress in Arsenyev. Interstate Aviation Committee type certificate 213-Як-54 gives it two maximum take-off masses for two different jobs: 1,087 kg in the ferry configuration and 990 kg for aerobatics, where every kilogram costs manoeuvrability. The never-exceed speed is 415 km/h, the maximum operating altitude 3,000 m, and the tanks hold 180 litres, or 138 kg. The engine is a 360-hp M-14Kh nine-cylinder radial from the Voronezh works turning a three-blade German MT-Propeller. The minimum crew is one pilot and the certificate allows two people aboard, by seat count — the back seat being an instructor’s rather than a passenger’s.
