Yakovlev Yak-40

Yakovlev Design Bureau

About

The first regional jet to enter service anywhere, a three-engined machine designed to put jet travel onto the short unpaved strips that Li-2s and Il-14s had been working. The Interstate Aviation Committee noise register lists it on certificate № 26 of 3 February 1992 with three Ivchenko AI-25 engines, held by the Yakovlev works. Its certified masses are not published anywhere reachable: the type certificate has lapsed and the noise register records no weights.
