Details

The Short SC-7 Skyvan is a flying box: a square-section fuselage on a braced high wing with a full-width rear ramp, built in Belfast for freight and parachuting rather than for looking sleek. Its shape is why it still works — a 19.79 m span on a 12.22 m fuselage gets it out of places nothing else its size can use. The cruise speed, range, ceiling, climb rate and take-off distance are EUROCONTROL's figures for the SC7 type code rather than a certificate's: a type certificate states limits and weights, not cruise performance, and the source does not distinguish sub-variants.
