About

The DC-4 is the DC-3 grown up: four engines, a nosewheel instead of a tailwheel, and nearly three times the take-off weight at 33,112 kg. It went to war first as the C-54 and flew the Berlin Airlift, and it was the airframe the pressurised DC-6 and DC-7 were drawn from — the wing span it introduced, 35.81 m, stayed unchanged all the way to the DC-7B.
