The Boeing 747-100 was the original "Jumbo Jet" that revolutionized commercial aviation in 1970. With its distinctive upper-deck hump and massive size, it was the first wide-body airliner and the largest passenger aircraft for decades. Pan Am launched the 747-100 with the first commercial flight from New York to London. It featured a three-person cockpit crew and could carry up to 490 passengers. The 747-100 established Boeing as a leader in large aircraft manufacturing. A total of 205 747-100s were built, including 167 passenger variants and 38 -100B models with uprated engines.
