Beriev Be-200ChS

The only jet amphibian in production anywhere: a firefighting flying boat that scoops twelve tonnes of water in fourteen seconds while planing across a lake, and can do it again without landing. Interstate Aviation Committee type certificate СТ229-Бе-200ЧС gives it three take-off masses rather than one — 42,000 kg from land, 39,795 kg from water, and 43,000 kg while scooping on the step — with a maximum ramp mass of 42,200 kg. The landing masses invert: 35,000 kg onto land but 37,900 kg onto water, which decelerates an aeroplane more gently than a runway. Maximum payload is 5,000 kg, the maximum operating Mach number 0.64, and the ceiling 8,100 m without passengers or 7,600 m with them. Two D-436TP turbofans mounted high above the waterline give 7,500 kgf of take-off thrust each, or 73.5 kN. Two pilots may carry up to 43 passengers.
