Avro RJ70
British Aerospace

About
The Avro RJ70 is the updated and smallest variant of the Avro RJ (Regional Jet) series, itself a development of the BAe 146-100. Introduced in 1992, the RJ70 features a modernized digital cockpit with EFIS displays, improved avionics, and more efficient Honeywell (AlliedSignal) LF 507 turbofan engines. Seating 70-94 passengers, it retained all the positive characteristics of the BAe 146 including exceptional short-field performance and quiet operation, while offering reduced operating costs and improved reliability. The RJ70 found particular success with operators requiring access to airports with challenging approaches or strict noise regulations. Despite its capabilities, only 5 RJ70s were built, making it the rarest variant of the family.
