Antonov An-38-100

Antonov

About

The stretched, Western-engined development of the An-28, designed at Antonov and built at the Chkalov works in Novosibirsk — an unglamorous high-wing commuter for unprepared strips, fitted with American turboprops and Hartzell propellers because no suitable engine was available at home. Interstate Aviation Committee type certificate 129-38 gives a maximum take-off mass of 9,500 kg, a maximum ramp mass of 9,550 kg, a maximum landing mass of 9,500 kg — the same as the take-off figure — a maximum zero-fuel mass of 8,400 kg and a maximum payload of 2,500 kg. Two TPE331-14GR turboprops drive five-blade Hartzell propellers. Two pilots carry up to 27 passengers, and the certificated ceiling depends on what is fitted: 3,000 m without oxygen equipment and 4,200 m with it. Fewer than a dozen were completed.
