About

The firefighting An-32, carrying its water in two pairs of external tanks slung along the fuselage sides and dropping it through doors in their undersides. It holds a restricted-category type certificate from the Interstate Aviation Committee, number 69-32П, whose mass limits are printed in tonnes and come in pairs: a maximum take-off mass of 29.7 t with retardant aboard and 27.0 t without, a maximum ramp mass of 29.95 t and 27.25 t respectively, and a maximum landing mass of 26.4 t. The four external tanks hold 8 tonnes of retardant between them. Beyond firefighting the certificate covers dropping smokejumpers — up to 27 of them — and the minimum crew is three. Retardant may not be released below 40 m above the terrain, and smokejumpers not below 400 m.
