The Airbus A340-600 is the longest variant of the A340 family and was the longest commercial aircraft in the world upon its introduction. First flown in April 2001 and entering service with Virgin Atlantic in August 2002, the A340-600 measures 75.36 meters in length. It typically seats 380 passengers in a three-class configuration and can fly up to 14,600 km (7,900 nm). With 97 aircraft delivered, the A340-600 was more successful than the -500 but still suffered from poor fuel economics. Major operators included Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, Etihad, and South African Airways. The last A340-600 was delivered in 2011 as production shifted to the more efficient A350.
