Airbus A340-200

The Airbus A340-200 was the shorter, longer-range variant of the original A340 family. First flown in April 1992 and entering service in 1993, it was designed for ultra-long-haul routes with moderate passenger loads. The A340-200 could fly up to 14,800 km (8,000 nm) with 210-250 passengers, making it capable of connecting virtually any two cities non-stop. Only 28 A340-200s were produced, as airlines generally preferred the larger A340-300. The type was operated by airlines including Lufthansa, Air France, and Egypt Air on their longest routes before being retired in favor of more fuel-efficient twin-engine aircraft.
